Gating Files

A listmode data file may be edited or gated with a logical gate. All gates must be set before using the File Gate Command applied to either histogram, dotplot, or contour windows.

Note: WinMDI uses boolean logic with all 2D gates, but the histogram gate region functionality is designed to be used as a fast "pre-gate" tool. For more, see note 7 in bugs and problems.

To properly use WinMDI's Histogram Region gating capability, ALL file parameters must first be read into a Histogram window. Read in all parameters by checking the Show All Parameters item check box in the Get Listmode dialog (after file selection). Once all the parameters are read and displayed, set one or more histogram markers to define the population(s) of interest. Once set, copy the markers you want to use as a gate to the Histogram Gate Region using the Logical Gate Tool. This creates a global Histogram Gate Region that may be used to gate any other listmode file window by simply checking the Gate Region check box item in the Logical Gate Tool dialog. The Logical Gate Tool dialog applies to and reflects the current active window. Keep in mind that the Histogram Gate Region is both global and multiparameter. Once defined, all windows may use the same region.

If a 2D region is to be used as a logical gate, select the desired region gate logic to apply to the window by bringing up the Logical Gate Tool. The logical gate status for a 2D region may be OFF, AND, OR, or NOT. All subsequent listmode data will then be read into the window using the logical gates as shown by the tool's dialog box. For more, see the Logical Gate Tool.
