Torrey Pines Paraglider Pilots Association

The Torrey Pines Paraglider Pilots Association (TPPA) is devoted to the promotion of safety, and the enjoyment of flying at Torrey Pines Gliderport. Its members are all intermediate, advanced or instructor pilots who regularly fly at Torrey Pines, who are experienced in the safety measures as well as the conditions under which paragliding can be its most rewarding, and who are devoted to maintaining the Gliderport as a beautiful scenic and historical Site. Membership Membership in the Association is limited to intermediate, advanced, tandem, and/or instructor pilots interested in the preservation of Torrey Pines Gliderport.

Members are (and are restricted to being):

  1. Paraglider pilots qualified to fly at Torrey Pines Gliderport.
  2. Current USHGA members.
  3. Current annual members at Torrey Pines Gilderport.
  4. Individuals willing and interested in accepting the responsibilities attendant with membership.
  5. Individual pilots who are actively interested in the preservation of Torrey Pines Gliderport for all pilots, the public, and particularly as an internationally recognized flying Site.
  6. Individuals who have paid a $20 annual fee to cover expenses of the Association including newsletter and patch. Officers
  7. The first President will be appointed by the President of the Torrey Pines Advisory Board and serve until the first annual party.
  8. The President will be elected at the annual party and will serve for one year (or until the next subsequent annual party).

Responsibilities:

The responsibilities attendant to membership in the TPPA extends beyond those normally expected of Advanced, Tandem and Instructor pilots at any flying Site. They are:

  1. To encourage all pilots at the Site always to follow safety procedures.
  2. To engage, in a helpful and supportive way, with any pilot or private person who may not be following safety procedures to ensure that they do.
  3. To encourage pilots to follow specific Site rules at Torrey Pines Gliderport.
  4. To engage with those who are not following Site rules in a helpful and informative way to ensure that they do.
  5. To act as a greeter of guests, interested onlookers, possible new pilots or those seeking a tandem experience, and of the general public.
  6. To represent Torrey Pines as the outstanding international Site that it is.
  7. To help in the improvement of the Site through labor, financial donations, or other contributions as each pilot sees fit.
  8. To support the Site Manager.

Benefits:

The primary benefit of being a member of the TPPA is the association with other experienced pilots devoted to this exceptional Site and to paragliding, and to promote the sport of paragliding, particularly at Torrey Pines, thereby helping to ensure its continuation. Specific benefits are:

  1. All benefits enjoyed by annual members including flying, parking, access to special offers, etc.
  2. The opportunity to be a hospitality representative of Torrey Pines and of the sport of paragliding.
  3. The opportunity to greet the public as a hospitality representative of the sport and of the Torrey Pines Gliderport.
  4. The opportunity to ensure safety at Torrey Pines Gliderport as an official representative of the Site.
  5. The right to wear the TPPA patch indicating the pilot's advanced qualifications and membership in the TPPA.
  6. Receipt of the newsletter, and the right to make appropriate input into it (such as information, safety comments, personal advertising, or suggestions).
  7. Invitation to the annual party held to recognize the achievements and contributions of members.
  8. Early notification and reservation at special events and educational seminars/classes offered by the Torrey Pines staff and associates.
